About the role
The client is a private aerospace manufacturer and spaceflight services company, which aims to make access to space more affordable and reliable through the development of reusable rocket technology. It has several ambitious projects in progress, including its New Shepard suborbital rocket, designed for space tourism and research missions, and the New Glenn orbital launch vehicle, intended to compete with SpaceX's Falcon rockets in the commercial satellite launch market.
The client has also been involved in developing lunar landers and other technologies to support NASA's Artemis program, which aims to return humans to the Moon and eventually establish a sustainable human presence there.
Rate: $110.63/Hr
Job Description:
- We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!
- Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- You will support test, tooling and design engineers in the design and CAD activities of test equipment in accordance with *** and established industry standards as follows:
- Design, create and modify 3D models and drawings of test equipment, fixtures, GSE, tooling, and facilities.
- Create and modify test configuration assemblies and develop associated BOMs and drawings.
- Create Interface Control Models and Interface Control Drawings.
- Create/split conceptual structural models into components, joints, and assemblies.
- Incorporate drafting standards and standard drawing notes based on company, program, and industry standards.
- Perform model and drawing check activities during release reviews.
- Assist in the development of requirements, statements of work, and technical oversight of GSE vendors.
- Provide technical recommendations on tooling and equipment design.
- Maintain and report on activity schedule and technical status as needed.
- Support test engineers in test planning and address questions pertaining to the test setup and load applications for all test load cases from a fixturing perspective.
- Bachelor s degree in engineering.
- 5 years of experience developing models/assemblies and creating drawings.
- Experience with automotive, aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle GSE, fixtures, tooling and/or structures.
- Strong mechanical design and integration skills using Creo Parametric / ProE software and Windchill or equivalent.
- Experience creating assembly and installation models and drawings.
- Familiarity with mechanical joint and weldment design and component integration.
- Proficient in standard fits, tolerance stacks, and GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5).
- Experience in drawing generation, checking, and life cycle/release processes.
- Experience managing large CAD assemblies and associated drawings.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage complicated assemblies as well as coordinate design and assembly details across multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Experience with test and/or test fixtures/tooling assemblies.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% during major test campaigns.
- Experience supporting large scale GSE assembly/integration.
- Experience supporting fabrication instruction of GSE.
- Experience with fluids or cryo tooling design
